Keep Calm and Read a Book!

Since I was a little girl I always found peace while reading a book.  Life likes to throw random things at us but when I find a good book to get lost in life doesn't seem as rough. Its interesting how a book can change the way you feel and take you on an adventure. So the above "Keep Calm" poster means a lot to me its kind of like my motto.

I love this photo! I hope that one day I am just like this funny little lady.

This is a little DIY I would love to do for my garden...bricks painted like books

DIY Bath Mat

Since we moved I have been looking for a bath mat (which sounds easy enough). I couldn't find what I was looking for because I had made it up in my little head. What I wanted was a light colored mat with a fish scale pattern on it. I've always like that pattern as a tiling idea either for a back splash or shower. Since I can't tile in our rental I wanted to bring that pattern in some other way.

If I cant find something then I try to figure out how I can make it. This ended up being rather easy. All you need is a towel fold it in half then  sew the edges to seal it up. Then get some bleach and brush it on in whatever pattern you want (remember to wash is separately so you don't get bleach on anything else. Then to finish the ends nicer I added some white piping.

I would love these tiles in my shower

Art?!

I thought of a wonderful idea turning a cheesy painting into something new. I got the idea from a artist named Wayne White who used to work on Peewees Playhouse as one of the creators. I watched a documentary about him is was very interesting though he is a little odd (what artist isn't odd). He takes cheesy paintings and paints random things on them like this one below.

P.S I'm hoping to make more and sell them on my Etsy shop one day.

For The Love Of Austen!

Like most romantics I love Jane Austen. My introduction to her was the Pride and Prejudice series in 1995 by BBC with Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy. Then I went and read the book right away and loved it. In my 20s I found Persuasion and loved the book but it wasn't until BBC remade it in 2007 that I loved the movie. My favorite book and movie by Jane Austen is Persuasion and then Pride and Prejudice. Sorry Jane Austen but I find Sense and Sensibility hard to read but I love the Ang Lee version (ironically also released in 1995) There is a couple of her books that I haven't read yet but they are on my giant reading list on Goodreads. I have read the Marvel comics and loved the story's (of course) but the art is also great. I'm not so crazy that I like everything Jane Austen like the many rewrites and modernizing of her story's. I've given a couple of them a try but it was all kinds of wrong.

You pierce my soul. I am half agony, half hope. Tell me not that I am too late, that such precious feelings are gone for ever. -Captain Wentworth

In vain have I struggled. It will not do. My feelings will not be repressed. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you. -Mr.Darcy

Moving Home

After seven years of marriage and living in the city my husband has finally agreed to move back to our home town. I'm beyond excited its exactly what I need. Its the end of night shift and a bigger newer place with tons of my family around. We have been back for 2 months now and it has been great. Though work is still a little stressful the rest has been great. Here's some photos from my new home.

Hello Dolly

My 1st doll
A childhood friend of mine is having her first baby girl so I have decided to make her a doll! The one in the photo above was for my niece which was my first attempt. I found the pattern on deviantart a couple of years ago though I did change a few of things from the original. I used yarn for the dolls hair above but it kept on falling out. Then I discovered mohair on Etsy and it saved a ton of time and it looks really good. Its almost like sewing a wig on. As the doll comes together I will have updates and the final product. Until then here are the other dolls I made with the mohair.

I named her Beatrix and a lovely lady bought her last year
